The club is reported to have been established prior to 1954 but records began in 1954 as 35 members made their way to Yambuk Lake for a fishing competition. What resulted was, “ a nice catch of Bream and Mullet” and by 4 p.m. members were enjoying a feast by the campfire.
In 1958 the club purchased the land at 5 Gipps Street from the Haldane Family for a reported sum of 800 pounds which in earlier times was used as a fish factory.
The club house was purchased from the Port Fairy Horse Racing Club at a cost of 250 pounds.
In the 1980’s it was decided to extend the clubhouse. Members purchased the Manchester Unity Lodge Hall situated in Orford. So the huge undertaking commenced with the transportation of the Hall to Port Fairy Angling property which extended the size of the original club rooms.

Benefits of Membership include :
Club membership also provides a means to contribute to sustainable fishing practices.
With regular member only Fishing Competitions held by the club there are multiple opportunities to participate in competitions, participating at club and inter-club levels.
Currently, the Port Fairy Angling Club holds seven Sunday only and five weekend competitions over the course of the season. One of the Sunday competitions is allocated to a competition against the Koroit Angling Club, and another against the Yambuk Angling Club. Each competition involves the allocation of points to the members weighing the Heaviest Bag and the Heaviest Fish. Land based and boat based fishing results are treated as separate categories, and form the basis of Award Presentations at the close of each season. Competition rules limit the weighing of fish to five fish made up of one or more species. We also offer members a separate all seasons competition which is available on a individual species basis, where a record is maintained on the heaviest fish of an approved species. Results for this competition are also reflected in the end of season presentation for any member fortunate enough to catch a club record fish of any approved species.
Annual Presentation Awards are an opportunity for members to celebrate the fishing achievements of our members.
Regular fishing clinics are held for all ages (except winter). We also host school fishing clinics for students of all ages. Please contact us for further details and bookings.
